Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word or PDF format.
  • References follow IEEE citation style (numbered, in order of appearance).
  • The manuscript is formatted consistently and legibly (recommended: 12-point font, 1.5 or double line spacing for review), with illustrations, figures and tables clearly captioned.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • The author has read and agrees to the journal's ethics and open-access policies.

Before submitting, authors should ensure that:

  • The submission is original, not previously published, and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • The manuscript falls within the journal's Focus & Scope.
  • An abstract and appropriate keywords are included.

Manuscript structure. A typical research article should include: title; abstract; keywords; introduction; methods/methodology; results; discussion; conclusion; declarations (funding, conflicts of interest, data availability); and references.

Referencing style. All references must follow IEEE citation style — numbered in square brackets in order of appearance in the text (e.g. [1], [2]), with a correspondingly numbered reference list.

Article types. Research Articles — original research presenting significant, novel results. Review Articles — comprehensive, critical surveys of the state of the art. Short Communications — concise reports of significant preliminary findings or novel methods.

Declarations. Authors must include statements on funding, competing interests, data availability, and (where applicable) the use of AI-based tools.

By submitting, authors confirm their agreement with the journal's policies, including its ethics and open-access policies.

Research Articles

Original research presenting significant and novel results in intelligent computing, artificial intelligence, scientific machine learning, or advanced computational methods applied to energy systems and environmental science.

Review Articles

Comprehensive, critical reviews surveying the state of the art in topics within the journal's scope.

Short Communications

Concise reports of significant preliminary findings, novel methods, or focused results that warrant rapid publication. Short Communications are peer-reviewed and should present a complete, self-contained contribution in brief form.

Authors who publish with Intelligent Computing for Energy and Environment (ICEE) retain copyright in their work and grant the journal the right of first publication. All articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits others to copy, redistribute, adapt, and build upon the work in any medium or format, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original authors and source.

  2. What personal data we collect
    We collect and process the personal data you provide when you register, submit, review, or edit for the journal, including your name, email address, affiliation, country, and (where provided) ORCID iD, biographical statement, and areas of interest. For submissions, we also process the content and metadata of manuscripts, correspondence, and peer-review records.
  3. Why we process it, and our lawful basis
    We process this data to operate the journal — to manage registration and user accounts, receive and administer submissions, conduct peer review, make editorial decisions, publish accepted articles, and communicate with authors, reviewers, and editors. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interests in operating a scholarly journal and, where you submit or agree to review, the performance of those tasks at your request. Published article metadata (including author names and affiliations) is made publicly available as an inherent part of scholarly publishing.
  4. How your data is stored and who processes it
    The journal runs on Open Journal Systems (OJS), hosted on our behalf by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), which acts as our data processor and applies appropriate technical and organisational security measures. Access to non-public personal data is restricted to the journal's editors and administrators for editorial purposes only.
  5. Who we share it with
    The names, email addresses, and affiliations entered in this journal will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party, except that published article metadata is public and may be shared with indexing, archiving, and DOI-registration services as a normal part of scholarly publishing.
  6. How long we keep it
    We retain editorial and account data for as long as necessary to maintain the integrity and permanence of the scholarly record and to operate the journal. Published article metadata forms a permanent part of the public record.
  7. Your rights
    Under applicable data protection law — the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, and, for individuals located in the European Union, the EU GDPR — you have the right to access your personal data, to request correction of inaccurate data, to request erasure or restriction of processing in certain circumstances, and to object to processing.
